Gov’t Mule guitarist Warren Haynes, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead guitarist Scott Metzger, the Disco Biscuits keyboardist Aron Magner and Conehead Buddha saxophonist Shannon Lynch joined moe. at The Capitol Theater in Port Chester, New York on Friday night. The guests, which also included bassist Rob Derhak’s daughter Emma Derhak, were helping to fill-in for moe. guitarist Chuck Garvey, who was absent while recovering from a stroke.
moe. announced most of the guests earlier this week. The band will enlist another set of musicians for their show tonight at The Cap. Last night and this evening’s concerts are moe.’s only tour dates. The band canceled their other shows due to Garvey’s health. On Friday night, one of Garvey’s guitars was placed on The Capitol Theatre stage.
Metzger, who was not part of the earlier announcement, was the first to join Derhak, guitarist Al Schnier, drummer Vinnie Amico and percussionist Jim Loughlin, sitting-in on the show starting “Annihilation Blues,” which was sung by Loughlin. Metzger stuck around for the follow-up, “Stranger Than Fiction,” and remained onstage while Magner and Lynch came out for “Dangerous Game.” The guitarist then exited ahead of “Deep This Time.” Emma Derhak emerged to sing the holiday favorite “Blue Christmas.” Next up was “Where Does The Time Go?,” and Lynch leaving before the set-ending “Bring You Down.”
Magner was the only auxiliary player as moe. opened the second set with “Shoot First.” Lynch came back for a transition into “Puebla” and remained for the subsequent “Bullet.” Haynes then made his first appearance of the night, tapping Lynch out before launching into “Opium.” Haynes and Magner then augmented the Rob-sung “Happy Hour Hero,” with Lynch jumping back in for the “Recreational Chemistry” set closer.
Haynes, Magner, Lynch and Emma Derhak were onstage for the encore. First up was a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Time,” quickly followed by Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.”
moe. returns to The Capitol Theatre for another show tonight. Guests expected to participate include Strangefolk/Assembly Of Dust guitarist Reid Genauer and Percy Hill keyboardist Nate Wilson, as well as Schleigho guitarist Suke Cerulo. Watch videos from Friday’s show below:
