Trey Anastasio Performs 3rd ‘Rubber Jungle’ Session For SiriusXM Phish Radio

Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio delivered his third Rubber Jungle Live performance from his home in New York City on Firday for SiriusXM’s Phish Radio. Trey delivered a host of acoustic Phish gems and shared his excitement about getting back on tour.

Trey opened up the session the Rubber Jungle theme before getting into “Set Your Soul Free,” which saw the guitarist riffing on a looped coda that headed into “Down With Disease.” Anastasio then addressed the satellite radio audience saying, “I’m gonna see you on the road real soon,” before grooving on another looped section. Phish returns to the stage on July 28 in Rogers, Arkansas.

“Stealing Time From The Faulty Plan” followed. The jam saw Trey reeling off the melody on guitar over a shimmering rhythm before reprising the chorus. “Wading In The Velvet Sea” came next ahead of “Sunset Days,” a tribute to Trey’s wife Sue Anastasio. “Cavern” followed before Trey referenced the aforementioned tour kick-off in Arkansas.

“Goin’ to Arkansas,” Anastasio sang over a bluesy riff. “Really soon. I can’t wait to go to Arkansas.” Trey then said, “I’m so excited man, never played in Arkansas. So in honor of Arkansas,” he continued. “I’m gonna do a song for Rubber Jungle Live about another state that we’ve never played, that I wanna play. So here it comes…hope I can play there someday and meet Jesse from Breaking Bad cause that’s where he lives.” Trey then got into “Alaska.”

Next up, “Wilson” ahead of a cool acoustic arrangement of “Maze.” “Theme From The Bottom” came next and contained a sometimes galloping, sometimes floating, acoustic guitar outro with glittering harmonic touches ahead of a return to the “So I ask you why” line. After “Kill Devil Falls,” Trey reprised his “Getting Ready For Tour” jam which he grooved on during his first Rubber Jungle Live. Anastasio then concluded the performance with “Blaze On.”
