The String Cheese Incident Wraps New Year’s Run In Chicago

The String Cheese Incident concluded their three-night New Year’s Eve run at Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre on Saturday. As they did the previous nights, SCI unveiled a new original in the Windy City.

Cheese got the show underway with a bust out of Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way,” last time played on June 28, 2019 at Electric Forest in Rothbury, Michigan. Bassist Keith Moseley led the band through the rocker which SCI grasses up. Guitarist Bill Nershi and mandolinist Michael Kang teamed up from some picking before things took a psychedelic turn with Kang adding some fiery electric mando work.

Next up, the Nershi-penned classic “Miss Brown’s Teahouse” followed by percussionist Jason Hann‘s “Manga.” More vintage Cheese in Kang’s “It Is What It Is” then led into the instrumental “BollyMusnter” featuring Kang on fiddle. Cheese unveiled a new original, “Trip The Light Fantastic,” to close out the set. The new tune featured keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth on lead vocals and included samples from Willy Wonka.

SCI got their nearly seamless, six-song second set going with “Sirens” which segued into “One Step Closer” and the relatively new tune “Illegal,” penned by drummer Michael Travis and debuted in 2018. The classic “Round The Wheel” capped off the seamless opening segment. Cheese’s collaboration with longtime associate Keller Williams, “Best Feeling,” paired up with “Colliding” closed out the second set. The band returned to encore with “Outside And Inside” to finish off their 2021 New Year’s run.
