The String Cheese Incident was joined by renowned guitarist Peter Rowan on Friday night at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California. Rowan accompanied the band on two songs in the first set of SCI’s opening night of a two-show run at the storied venue.
SCI took the stage after an opening set by Galactic, kicking off set one with “Search.” The band then delivered “Missin’ Me” and “Just One Story,” which was followed by Rowan being brought to the stage. The Old & In The Way guitarist added acoustic guitar to a cover of New Riders Of The Purple Sage’s “Lonesome LA Cowboy.” Rowan, whose history with SCI dates back to at least 1999, stuck around for a subsequent performance of his “Sweet Melinda.” After Rowan’s exit, the first set concluded with “Sweet Spot” and “Beautiful.
Set two began with “All We Got,” followed by a pairing of “Vertigo” and “Close Your Eyes.” The band then worked through “The Road Home” and “Hi Ho No Show.” Next came “Shantytown,” which saw percussionist Jason Hann sang a verse of Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean” as well as jam on Herbie Hancock’s “Cantaloupe Island.” A transition into “Let’s Go Outside” ushered in the final song of the set. The bluegrass classic and longtime SCI staple “How Mountain Girls Can Love” served as the evening’s encore.
The String Cheese Incident returns to the Greek Theatre for another show tonight. Watch Must Have Media’s video footage of Peter Rowan sitting-in with The String Cheese Incident and last night at The Greek:
