The String Cheese Incident’s headlining performance at Suwannee Hulaween on Saturday (October 30) featured a third set devoted to dance-themed covers. SCI was joined during the special set by vocalists and previous collaborators Rhonda Thomas and Tony White and members of The Antibalas Horns.
SCI also played two headlining sets on Friday and another set on Halloween at Spirit Of The Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida. Saturday’s covers set, which mostly featured debuts alongside a handful of bust outs, began with “Let’s Dance” which SCI played once before in 2016. The dance motif continued with takes on “You Should Be Dancing” by Bee Gees, “Dancing In The Streets” by Martha & The Vandellas, ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” and Frank Zappa’s “Dancing Fool.”
The covers kept coming with disco favorite “Boogie Oogie Oogie” by A Taste Of Honey, “Dancing Machine” by the Jackson 5 and “I’m Your Boogie Man” by KC And The Sunshine Band. The Sly & The Family Stone classic “Dance To Music” came next, followed by Heatwave’s “Boogie Nights.” A string of contemporary covers came in the form of Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance,” Tones and I’s “Dance Monkey” and Daft Punk’s “Lose Yourself To Dance.” The dance-themed set came to an end with a dubstep treatment of Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer.”
