The Disco Biscuits Play Weather-Shortened Show In Georgia

The Disco Biscuits kicked off their two-night run at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, Georgia near Atlanta on Friday. The quartet would play a shortened first set due to weather followed by an extended second set.

Bisco got things going under darkened skies by easing into “On Time,” the title track to the band’s 2009 EP. Keyboardist Aron Magner sang the song through a vocoder with guitarist Jon Gutwillig joining in with normal vocals on the chorus before the band dropped into a funky jam. From there, tDB headed into the vintage “Shem-Rah Boo,” which would be the last song before bassist Marc Brownstein told the crowd of the weather delay due to lightning.

The Disco Biscuits emerged on the other side of the delay with the opening hits of “Helicopters” before Barber laid down the rock riff. For the transition, drummer Allen Aucoin dropped into a four on the floor beat for an inverted version of “Miracles,” a Brownie composition from the Bisco side project Electron. The quartet worked their way through the inverted “Miracles” and into the classic “Munchkin Invasion,” which encompassed the Gutwillig composition “Rocket Science,” a fairly new song for tDB but dating further back to Barber’s Kick Rocks project.

Next up came a Fusion “Tractorbeam Jam” which headed into “Cyclones,” another tDB side project song from the group JM2. “Cyclone” would preface the conclusion of “Helicopters.” The tDB old school rocker “M.E.M.P.H.I.S” then came ahead of “Wet,” which was last played on July 20, 2019 at Camp Bisco for a total of 60 shows, as per Phantasy Tour. The Disco Biscuits closed out the evening with “Kitchen Mitts.”
