Tedeschi Trucks Band was joined by special guest Duane Betts on Tuesday at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida. The Allman Betts Band guitarist and son of Allman Brothers axeman Dickey Betts augmented TTB on a pairing of “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed” and “Leaving Trunk” to end last night’s second set.
Led by Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, Tedeschi Trucks Band began the concert with beloved original “Don’t Know What It Means” and a Susan-sung take on The Box Tops’ “The Letter.” The 12-piece ensemble then followed “Do I Look Worried” and “Until You Remember” by looking to 2016’s Let Me Get By LP for “Right On Time.” Next, vocalist Mike Mattison fronted the group on “Life Is Crazy.” Covers of Junior Wells’ “Little By Little” and Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” gave way to the Derek Trucks showcase “Idle Wind” to close last night’s first set.
“Learn How To Love” kicked off the second set in Clearwater. From there, the TTB returned to Let Me Get By for “I Want More” and played “Looking For Answers” from Susan’s solo days. Next, keyboardist Gabe Dixon led “Don’t Keep Me Wonderin’” by The Allman Brothers Band. Derek shined on the ensuing segment featuring “Afro Blue,” “Shame” and “Midnight In Harlem.”
Duane Betts emerged after TTB took on the Bobby “Blue” Bland classic “I Pity The Fool.” Betts engaged in a guitar duel with Derek Trucks on “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed,” an Allman Brothers Band instrumental written by Duane’s father. Duane stuck around for the set-closing “Leaving Trunk” cover. Tedeschi Trucks Band then went at it alone for a “Let’s Go Get Stoned” encore.
Tedeschi Trucks Band continues their current tour in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Thursday, November 18. A livestream is available for purchase via nugs.net with showtime slated for 7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT.
