Phish will release a 12-LP box set featuring the band’s The Clifford Ball festival via JEMP Records on March 4, 2022. The massive box set includes all six sets the quartet played at their first major festival, which was held at Plattsburgh Air Force Base in Plattsburgh, New York August 16 – 17, 1996. Additionally, vinyl consisting of the famed late-night Flatbed Jam is available separately as a Phish Dry Goods exclusive.
The Clifford Ball drew over 70,000 fans to Plattsburgh in August of 1996. Phish played three sets each day and surprised fans by loading onto a flatbed truck for a 37-minute performance in the early morning hours of August 17, 1996. Official Clifford Ball video was released on DVD in 2009. Today, Clifford Ball audio is available for download and streaming through LivePhish for the first time.
Phish’s forthcoming vinyl box set, the release of audio on LivePhish and this past weekend’s “Dinner And A Movie” broadcast comes in honor of The Clifford Ball’s 25th anniversary. The box set pairs 12 color vinyl discs (Day 1 on Orange vinyl and Day 3 on sky blue) with a 40+ page book featuring extensive liner notes penned by Parke Puterbaugh and photos from the event taken by Danny Clinch.
Paul Languedoc recorded the audio with the vinyl mastered and lacquers cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. All told, the box set features just under eight hours of music and can be pre-ordered now at Phish Dry Goods before coming to independent record stores in March.
