My Morning Jacket Presents Live Debuts In St. Louis

My Morning Jacket played live debuts of “Least Expected” and “Penny For Your Thoughts” during last night’s concert in St. Louis. Studio versions of both songs premiered on Tuesday at Stifel Theatre appear on the band’s recently released self-titled album.

The 22-song performance started with “Regularly Scheduled Programming,” the self-titled LP’s lead single. MMJ then looked to 2015’s The Waterfall for “Compound Fracture” before returning to My Morning Jacket for “Love Love Love.” Next came The Waterfall II standouts “Magic Bullet” and “Feel You” split by the classic “Off The Record.”

The ensuing “Golden” was one of four songs from 2003’s It Still Moves to make the setlist in St. Louis. From there, My Morning Jacket paired staples “I’m Amazed” and “Victory Dance” with The Waterfall’s “Tropics (Erase Traces).” Frontman Jim James then led his bandmates on “Least Expected” for the first time in concert.

“Penny For Your Thoughts” saw its live debut following a run of “Circuital,” “Run It,” “In Color,” “Spring (Among The Living)” and “Touch Me I’m Going To Scream Part 2.” MMJ capped the main set with It Still Moves gem “Dancefloors.” The encore began with oldies “I Will Sing You Songs” and “Wordless Chorus.” Fans were sent on their way with “Wasted” from The Waterfall II and the beloved “One Big Holiday.”

My Morning Jacket kicks off a three-night stand at Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre on Thursday. Watch fan-shot video footage of MMJ’s first live “Least Expected” captured by Hayden Lawyer below:
