Jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington and his band unveiled their cover of Metallica‘s “My Friend Of Misery” with guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo from the heavy metal act on Sunday night. The “My Friend Of Misery” performance came within Washington’s headlining performance at Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
Kamasi Washington recorded “My Friend Of Misery” as his contribution to The Metallica Blacklist, a compilation featuring 53 covers of tunes from Metallica’s The Black Album that hits digital and streaming services on September 10 and arrives on vinyl and CD on October 1. Washington’s band at Hollywood Bowl featured Thundercat on second bass and DJ Battlecat.
The saxophonist also premiered additional material last night including a cover of Terrace Martin‘s “Pig Feet.” Martin sat-in with Washington and company on his 2020 single as did Daylyt, Problem and G Perico.
