Lorde appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Wednesday. The singer-songwriter debuted her new single “Stoned At The Nail Salon,” went “Day Drinking” with Seth and more.
The sole guest on yesterday’s Late Night, Lorde’s appearance also included an interview with Meyers where the New Zealnd singer-songwriter talked her trip to Antarctica which inspired her upcoming album, Solar Power, due out on August 20 via Republic Records.
Lorde is presenting Solar Power in a discless, eco-conscious Music Box format. She detailed the inspiration behind the album as well as its presentation in a statement:
The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors. In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.
I decided early on in the process of making this album that I also wanted to create an environmentally kind, forward-thinking alternative to the CD. I wanted this Music Box product to be similar in size, shape and price to a CD, to live alongside it in a retail environment, but be something which stands apart and that’s committed to the evolving nature of a modern album.
Lorde and Seth also went “Day Drinking” in the popular Late Night segment after which the artist needed an IV drip. Lorde wrapped up her Late Night stop with a debut performance of her new Solar Power single, “Stoned At The Nail Salon.”
“This song is sort of a rumination on getting older, settling into domesticity, and questioning if you’ve made the right decisions,” Lored said of “Stoned At The Nail Salon.” I think lots of people start asking those questions of themselves around my age, and it was super comforting to me writing them down, hoping they’d resonate with others too. I used this song as a dumping ground for so many thoughts…”
