Singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves returns with a new studio album entitled star-crossed via Interscope Records/ UMG Nashville on September 10. Musgraves also stars in an accompanying film due out that same day exclusively for streaming through Paramount+.
Kacey previewed the 15-track follow-up to 2018’s Golden Hour by unveiling its title track and a trailer for the film. Musgraves recorded the album in just under three weeks earlier this year in Nashville with co-producers and writers Ian Fitchuk and Daniel Tashian.
“The 15-song collection, structured as a modern-day tragedy in three acts, tells an extremely personal journey of heartache and healing and displays Musgraves continued growth as one of the finest singer-songwriters of our time,” noted press materials heralding the album’s release. Kacey penned the title track with Tashian and Fitchuk.
Musgraves tapped Bardia Zeinali to direct the film. “We wanted it to feel cinematic and epic without compromising the heart and the emotion,” Zeinali stated, “to feel fantastical and heightened and tell her story through the lens of art and fashion.” star-crossed: the film spans 50 minutes and was filmed in Los Angeles. Eugene Levy, Victoria Pedretti, Princess Nokia, Symone and Megan Stalter each appear in the film.
