Guns N’ Roses Welcomes Wolfgang Van Halen In Hollywood, Florida

Guns N’ Roses kicked off a two-night stand at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on Saturday. The renowned rockers welcomed Wolfgang Van Halen for a GN’R classic to close out the encore.

Guns N’ Roses got the show underway with a pair of tunes, “It’s So Easy” and “Mr. Brownstone,” from their 1987 debut album Appetite For Destruction. The title track to the 2008 LP Chinese Democracy followed ahead of “Slither” from Velvet Revolver — a supergroup featuring GN’R guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan among others.

The first half of the set also contained GN’R classics “Welcome To The Jungle” and “Rocket Queen.” About halfway through the performance, the band delivered “new songs” “ABSUЯD” and “Hard Skool,” tunes from the Chinese Democracy sessions set to appear on the band’s upcoming Hard Skool EP, followed by “Civil War” and Slash’s guitar solo section which featured a jam on Muddy Waters’ “Mannish Boy,” as per SetlistFM.

GN’R also fit in a number of covers including McKagan singing lead on The Stooges’ “I Wanna Be Your Dog,” Paul McCartney and Wings’ “Live And Let Die,” Jimmy Webb’s “Wichita Lineman” and Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.” Additional standouts from the set included “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” “November Rain” and “Nightrain,” the latter closing out the set.

The four-song encore kicked off with “Coma” and also contained a cover of The Who’s “The Seeker.” To bring the evening to a close, Guns N’ Roses welcomed Wolfgang Van Halen, who opened the show with his group Mammoth WVH. Frontman Axl Rose introduced Wolfgang, the son of the late Eddie Van Halen, by saying “Wolfgang Van Halen, you know how cool it is to say that. That’s fucking cool. You don’t understand. We’re talking legacy.” Slash then strummed out the intro to “Paradise City” on which Wolfgang would add guitar and vocals, sharing a mic with Slash and McKagan.
