Goose Covers Nina Simone’s ‘Sinnerman’ For Secretly Canadian’s 25th Anniversary

Goose contributed a cover of Nina Simone’s “Sinnerman” to Secretly Canadian’s charitable series of 25th anniversary singles. All net proceeds from the track will go towards New Hope For Families, an organization aiding homeless families in the label’s hometown of Bloomington, Indiana.

The jam quintet’s take on the traditional song popularized by Nina Simone is out today on Bandcamp to celebrate Giving Tuesday. Goose’s “Sinnerman” arrives on all other digital services this Friday, December 3. Secretly Canadian’s SC25 series includes 25 new singles, 12 classic albums reissues and additional releases to be announced. Jim James, Bartees Strange and Madison McFerrin are among other contributors to the series.

“Nina Simone’s take on ‘Sinnerman’ has been a point of inspiration for many years,” Goose guitarist Rick Mitarotonda said in a press release. “We’ve been wanting to play it for a while, and this seemed like a perfect opportunity. We’re honored to be a part of this compilation and be involved in the great cause behind it.” Mitarotonda handles lead vocals on the five-piece’s reimagined, groove-oriented “Sinnerman.”
