Béla Fleck Celebrates ‘My Bluegrass Heart’ With All-Star Concert At The Ryman

Béla Fleck brought his My Bluegrass Heart to the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Saturday. The concert — which was set to take place on Friday but was postponed due to weather — saw the all-star bluegrass band playing songs from the album of the same name and more.

Sam Bush got the festivities underway on mandolin and was soon joined by guitarist Bryan Sutton, dobro player Jerry Douglas, bassist Edgar Meyer, fiddler Stuart Duncan and Béla on banjo for his tune “Blue Mountain Hop.” Over the course of the show, the all-star band was joined by the future of bluegrass in guitarists Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle, mandolinist Sierra Hull, fiddler Michael Cleveland and more to perform songs from the Grammy-nominated My Bluegrass Heart including “Vertigo” “This Old Road,” “Hug Point,” “Us Chickens” and more.

Béla and Sierra took the stage for the second set beginning with “Psalm 136” before Molly joined in for “Strider.” The record’s “Our Little Secret” and “Charm School” followed ahead of “Wheels Up” and “Hunter’s Moon,” which saw 10 musicians on stage. Sam then led a fiddle fest on “Baptist Pumpkin Farm” before the main set came to a close with “Boulderdash.”

Béla and Sam took it back to their New Grass Revival days to kick off the encore with “When The Storm Is Over” followed by a nod to the Father Of Bluegrass in Bill Monroe’s “Dark as the Night, Blue as the Day.” A fitting “Tennessee (I Hear You Calling Me)” came next before My Bluegrass Heart capped off the evening with “I’m on My Way Back to the Old Home” and an all-star rendition of “Whitewater.”
