Anaïs Mitchell Shares ‘On Your Way (Felix Song)’ Single

Anaïs Mitchell released the single “On Your Way (Felix Song).” The track appears on her forthcoming self-titled solo album set to arrive on January 28.

Mitchell recorded her first solo record since 2012 with producer Josh Kaufman, who is Mitchell’s Bonny Light Horseman bandmate. The 10-song LP features the multi-instrumentalist Kaufman, along with bassist/saxophonist Michael Lewis, drummer JT Bates, keyboardist Thomas Bartlett and The National/Big Red Machine guitarist Aaron Dessner. Nico Muhly contributed string and flute arrangements as well.

Mitchell, who created the Tony Award-winning Broadway play Hadestown, shared the following regarding “On Your Way (Felix Song),” stating:

“I wrote ‘On Your Way (Felix Song)’ for my friend Felix McTeigue, who died unexpectedly in 2020. We briefly had the same manager in our early ‘hustling days’ of trying to get a songwriter career going. I can picture us playing at the old Living Room on the lower east side, and me being one of five people in Felix’s audience, and vice versa. Felix was really fearless and present, he always had a guitar on his back, he was always writing something, he loved the act of just rushing headlong into writing, recording, not overthinking it. It’s a lesson I’ll return to for the rest of my life.”

Mitchell previously previewed the new album with the singles “Bright Star” and “Brooklyn Bridge.” Watch Anaïs Mitchell’s live performance of “On Your Way (Felix Song)” below:
