The Harry Simon Auditorium will be transformed into 19th century France on April 28, 29, and 30, as the Onteora High School presents Les Misérables School Edition, a musical adaption of Victor Hugo’s epic historical novel.
The play, set in the tumultuous period leading up to the Paris Uprising of 1832, tells the tale of Jean Valjean, a man who struggles to reclaim his life after serving a prison sentence for stealing bread to feed his sister’s starving children. Among his many challenges is the relentless Police Inspector Javert, who is determined to return him to jail. It’s a compelling story of barricades and betrayals, love and loss, rebellion and redemption.
Directed by Victoria McCarthy, the Onteora production features choreography by Amber McCarthy and musical direction by Onteora Music teacher Krista Cayea.Student leads include Will Davis as Jean Valjean, Evan Puccini as Javert, Kalena Kwiecinski as Fantine, Megan Haaland as Madame Thénardier, Val Shauger as Thénardier, Joey Driscoll as Young Cosette, Baileigh Griese as Cosette, Trinity Luther as Éponine, Spencer Estes as Marius, Helen Schauffler as Enjolras, and Grace Foster as Gavroche.
