HEALTH ALLIANCE FEATURED STORY

Every 40 seconds someone suffers from a stroke. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel carrying oxygen and glucose to the brain gets blocked by a clot or ruptures. A stroke can happen to anyone, so it’s important to know the risk factors:

– High blood pressure.

– Diabetes, cholesterol and coronary artery or vascular disease.

– Atrial Fibrillation.

– Smoking.

– Diet. Limit salt and sugar intake and avoid fried foods, snacking and alcohol.

– Lack of exercise.

TIME IS CRITICAL. Stroke can lead to irreversible brain damage, so treatment must be administered as soon as possible.

HealthAlliance’s Stroke Center, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, located at 396 Broadway, Kingston, has a stroke certified emergency team who provide a full continuum of stroke treatment and care. For more information, call 845-331-3131 or visit hahv.org.
