"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" by Amy Helm
Amy Helm, daughter of music legend Levon Helm, has published a ‘Gratitude’ page on AmyHelm.com giving thanks and recognition to friends, fans, musicians, and organizers around the world who have lent support both to the Levon Helm Studios “Keep It Goin’” initiative and other tremendously worthy organizations in Levon’s name since his passing on April 19, 2012.
Select photos and videos are on display on the ‘Gratitude’ page from many of the touching tributes and benefits that have been organized and held all over the world within the last twelve months. Events featured on the page include benefit concerts that have taken place in New York, New Jersey, Boston, Vermont, Seattle, Austin, Finland, and Spain that have raised money for “Keep It Goin’” or various other not-for-profit organizations in Levon’s name. Page visitors are also encouraged to share stories, thoughts, feelings and remembrances on the page.
Amy Helm writes, “These grassroots efforts beautifully reflect what Levon stood for, believed in, and worked hard to achieve in his life,” in an open letter published on Amy’s website, AmyHelm.com.
‘Gratitude’ also features a Pay-What-You-Want download of Amy’s recently recorded and unreleased version of The Band’s classic “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” featuring Larry Campbell, Teresa Williams, Byron Isaacs, Elizabeth Mitchell, Daniel Littleton, Fiona McBain, Glen Patscha, Dirk Powell and many others. Proceeds from the download will benefit the “Keep It Goin’” campaign, (raising money to continue the Midnight Rambles and create a musical landmark at Levon’s barn) and music programs for children at local schools in the Woodstock, NY community.
An active member of the Midnight Ramble Band, the Dirt Farmer Band, and Ollabelle, Amy Helm is currently touring and finishing up her solo debut record with her own band, Amy Helm & The Handsome Strangers. The album is due for release this fall.
