Roger Waters of Pink Floyd fame will join an all-star lineup of musicians at a Levon Helm tribute concert scheduled for Oct. 3 at the Izod Center in northern New Jersey.
Organizers announced this afternoon that Waters will perform at “Love for Levon,” which will also feature John Mayer, Dierks Bentley, Gregg Allman, Joe Walsh of The Eagles, My Morning Jacket and many others. Tickets are on sale now and cost $46.50 to $221.50. The Izod Center is part of the Meadowlands Sports Complex in E. Rutherford, N.J.
The concert is in honor of Helm, the late Woodstock resident who was a member of The Band and a Grammy-winning solo artist. Helm died April 19. Proceeds from ticket sales will, according to www.levonhelm.com, "help support the lasting legacy of Levon Helm by helping his estate keep ownership of his home, barn and studio, and to continue The Midnight Ramble Sessions."
Helm's Midnight Ramble house concerts, held at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock from 2004 to this year, attracted sold-out crowds on a consistent basis, as well as guest performers that included Elvis Costello, Ralph Stanley and Emmylou Harris.
Helm, along with fellow Band members Rick Danko and Garth Hudson, were featured performers in a massive concert of Pink Floyd’s “The Wall,” that Waters staged in 1990 in Berlin.
